Course Work Each course in the MAAPE program contributes to the development of skills of argumentation, analysis, dialogue, and theoretical knowledge in real-life situations. Program Faculty The expertise of the graduate faculty encompasses key areas of applied philosophy and ethics, including philosophy of technology, biomedical ethics, Latin American philosophy, environmental ethics, religious studies, social and political philosophy, philosophy of law, and gender studies. Career Options Graduates of the MAAPE program are qualified for teaching positions in community college settings and may choose to pursue advanced studies in philosophy or related fields.

The distinctive aspect of the applied program is the focus on the solution of a particular practical problem rather than on detailed engagement with current professional philosophical literature.
All PhD students in the Department of Philosophy receive a standard annual funding package , which will continue during the placement. The department also has special funds available for extra expenses that may be incurred during the placement. The Department of Philosophy has formed a relationship with MITACS , a national non-profit research and training organization that facilitates graduate student internships.
Applications are due by February 1 for the following academic year. The preferred foundation for graduate work is a major or minor in philosophy. However, applicants with less than this level of preparation who have a strong interest in philosophy are encouraged to apply.
